Snippets & context rules
Reuse a spoken phrase or choose a format for a particular app or website.
In the app: Writing tools → Formats, snippets & context rules
Spoken snippets save repeated typing
- Whole trigger
- The complete phrase to speak, for example “my signature”. It expands only when it is the whole dictation, not part of a longer sentence.
- Expansion
- The text that replaces the trigger. Use {{date}} for today’s date, {{time}} for the current time, or {{clipboard}} for clipboard text you explicitly choose to read.
- Enabled
- Turns this snippet on or off without deleting it.
- Preview snippet / Read clipboard & preview
- Try the trigger before relying on it. Use Read clipboard & preview when the expansion contains {{clipboard}}.
Try this
Whole trigger: “my sign off”. Expansion: “Thanks, Morgan”. Dictating only “my sign off” expands it; “Please add my sign off later” stays as a sentence.
Context rules choose a format
- Match kind / Identity
- Choose Website and enter its hostname, such as example.com, or choose Application ID and supply the identity used by your supported client.
- Format
- The saved format to use for that match.
- Include subdomains
- For a website rule, also matches addresses such as mail.example.com. It does not match an unrelated hostname.
- Automatic from context rules
- Choose this in Writing tools and supply Website or Application ID. A matching website rule takes priority, then an app rule, then the default format. A format you choose explicitly takes priority over those rules.
Good to know
The web page does not detect your other apps. Context must be supplied explicitly or by a supported client. Press Save writing settings after changing snippets or rules.
